After a “total loss” fire in a 28 unit apartment complex in Green Bay, Wisconsin Captain Chris Heil of the Green Bay Fire Department took the opportunity to remind folks of the economic benefit of fire sprinklers. [WBAY-TV]
With what we have here, we had a fire, we’ve been here for over 12 hours, the money and the resources that are taxing on the economy for the city, insurance companies, that cost per square foot to have a sprinkler system when you need it would save probably literally thousands and thousands of dollars in resources and economic impact,” Heil said.
The Captain raises a very good point. Sprinklers do more than squelch fires. They reduce the amount of water needed to extinguish fires and, in many jurisdictions, put relief on already overburdened fire departments.
