New York Considers Residential Sprinkler Requirement

The State of New York is considering a residential sprinkler requirement in all new single family dwellings. The condideration comes right after placement of a sprinkler requirement in the International Residential Code was narrowly defeated. There is an opptional requirement in the code that jurisdictions can choose to adopt. New York is considering exercising that option. [newsday.com]

New York may be the first statewide mandate, I’m not sure (Arizona, Nevada maybe?). I know there are some local governments across the country that have adopted such a requirement. I would like to get in touch with some code officials in those cities and see how things are going with the requirement. The main thing I want to know; is the requirement a big monster problem like the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) would have you believe?
